Just went and saw Prates of the Caribbean: Dead Mans Chest with [info]merinnan and [info]punk_rock_nerd.
I loved it. It wasn't quite as good as the first one, but I think that's largely because the first one was all new.
Still, very definitely worth watching and I really don't like having to wait for the third installment of piratical mayhem.
I suppose 'all good things come to those who wait' as they say.

Well, I am a very happy person today.
A while ago, [info]merinnan and I bid on a couple of swords from a seller in Perth.
They have finally arrived.

Yay!!!

There are unfortunately a couple of minor annoyances though.
Firstly, the sword and sheath came well oiled and wrapped in plastic. Plastic which has crinkled slightly and the oil has left lovely marks all over the sheath and on small areas of the blade.
Do any of you have an idea on how I might get rid of these marks? [info]iosef?

Secondly, it's a sabre. Curved blade, oddly enough. The sheath does not seem to have the same curve as the blade, such that the blade scrapes against the sheath about 4/5ths of the way down the blade when I try to sheath it. Oddly enough, this is not seen as a good thing.

Other than that though, I am very happy with my new shiny.

Jul. 2nd, 2006 @ 04:16 pm Party
Well, I would have to say that last nights party was a definite success.
I can't vouch for other people but I know that I at least had a very enjoyable night.
Thanks to everyone who came.
Next time, weather permitting, I'll actually make good on my promise to offer burnt sacrifices to the gods.
(I'll get the barbecue going)

Though I must say, waking up at about 11 and still feeling drunk was quite an odd experience as the room was trying to orbit my head.
Luckily only a slight headache and no nausea worth speaking of.

Will post more later.

Just another bit of an update.
Doing quite well in my Cisco course, once I've done this, I'll look into doing the CCNA course. This was always only going to be a step in the right direction, not an end result in itself.
I need to get at least 70% on each of the 14 weekly exams to pass the class. There is also a 15th exam which is a summary of the entire course. That also requires a 70% to pass.
Now, being that there has not yet been more than 25 questions in an exam, and they are all multiple choice, it's not really that hard. On the surface at least.
Some weeks ago, way back when we were learning about "How Computers Work" I needed to be able to pick, from memory, which device used a specific IO address, ditto with IRQ and DMA.
This kind of question seems to really appeal to the sods at Cisco.
How many of you techs and geeks out there have actually needed to know from memory what is in the address 3F8, for example. I mean, we have books, we have the internet, we have frickin' Google for gods sakes.
*sigh*
Ok, back on topic again.
I'm doing fairly well, after 10 exams I'm on an 85% average. I think I should be able to keep this fairly easily. I'm trying to get it higher, but I got a couple of low marks, in the 70's.
The good thing is, if I really listen to my wounded pride, I can resit them after a bit more study and do them again. With exactly the same questions. :D

In other news, I am contemplating something disgusting and most likely immoral. It may have a lasting effect on society as we know it.

I am seriously tempted to go back to Uni and do a Primary Teaching degree.
Yep, you heard it. Me, a teacher.
Enough of the teachers I work with have been saying that I'm good at it that I'm starting to listen to them.
Truth to tell, teaching them is easy, knowing what to teach to which class from one lesson to the next is a bit harder.

Ok, on my way to my evening classes in the city I generally buy something for dinner. Otherwise I'd be eating at around 11, not good.
This time I decided to go to the food court in Melbourne Central, I had a hankering for some Japanese and O-Bento is pretty damn good.
I get there, I order and then I take a seat, looking around as I wait. I'm just pulling a book out (I read too much) when I came to a rather startling and disturbing revelation.
Even surrounded by food stores on all sides: a sandwich place, o-bento, a few cafes and a couple other indiscriminate fooderies, people still voluntarily buy crap from McDonalds.
Now, I also occasionally purchase crud from the "golden arches", but normally only when there's nothing else around. For $7.50 I got a big bowl of rice topped with crumbed pork, an egg, onion and a few other vegies. All covered in this nice sauce.
For the same price you can get a sweetened burger bun, filled with mostly indeterminate foodstuffs, a handfull or so of heavily salted chips and a watered down post mix soda. After eating there, you are greasy, and dehydrated from all the salt.
What's the draw card?
Anyone know?

Well [info]merinnan and I have finally made the move to our new place. A housewarming is in the offing. A few weeks down the track, we need to finish unpacking and sorting out all our stuff.
I never realised exactly how much crap I have. And the worst part is, there's still more at the old house.
*sigh* I'll never be finished.
Work is .... work. Little kids. Computers. Trying to put the two together is quite painful at times. And unfortunately, all the pain is mine.
Bring back corporal punishment!
Honestly, there's a few kids in particular who need a bit of discipline.

Anyway....
Not a huge amount more happening.

Oooohhh. I just saw something I absolutely must go and see. Very soon after it's released.

http://www.x3movie.com/EN/mainframe.html

The new, and judging by the title and preview, final installment of the XMen series of movies.
It has a few of my favourite characters in it.
Introducing Angel, Beast and Juggernaut into the mix can only be good.
Although, it looks like they might also be including a certain interaction between Magneto and Wolverine.
This could certainly get nasty.
